Acer Ferrari 1100

Size zero lappie that does laps with Lewis Hamilton

Rule number one when co-branding gadgets; ensure your association is cool. The Tesco Value Blue Stripe MP3 player just won't cut it. Thankfully, Acer's super lightweight Ferrari 1100 not only oozes Italian cool but is F1 fast too.

AMD dual core processing, 4Gb of memory, decent graphics and a chunky 250Gb hard drive combine to fly through Windows and apps. A 12.1in screen means no full-size keyboard and its nearly-2Kg weight is heavier than expected but with a stack of connectivity ports, 802.11n wifi, HDMI, built-in webcam, slot-loading double-layer DVD drive and Dolby audio for some sweet mobile sounds, this lappy is proper versatile.

However, all this power comes at a cost and the battery suffers -- just two-hours before shutting down. Make no mistake, it's beautifully designed and will doubtless garner envious looks at 33,000ft, but it won't survive long-haul without a mid-flight re-juice.

WE LOVE

Great styling
Fast performance
Great sound

WE HATE

Poo battery life
Tad expensive

WE SAY

Seriously smooth looks and packing loads of mobile power but that honking battery life means you won't be straying too far from the mains.
