Shuttle M1000 media centre PC
A sleek media PC that's got catwalk looks and a designer price tag to match.
This black beauty looks at home in most lounges. Unfortunately, fan-noise creeps in during breaks in the sound - fine for The Matrix, not so great for films in which fewer things explode.
DVI and component outputs serve HD tellies and S-Video is also provided.
The wireless keyboard features all the media centre keys you'd expect, and the remote control is styled to match. Since the receiver is integrated into the main unit there are no ugly boxes to plug in.
Only analogue TV is available, but you can record two things at once. The hard drive holds up to 180 hours of footage. The PC does struggle with recent games, but knock the detail down a few notches and it's fine.
It's an elegant little machine, but the lack of digital reception, high price and that grumbling fan keep it from real greatness though.
