Nokia 6500 Classic

Fashion icon or fashion victim?

Nokia has developed a fine line in punting out high end multimedia mobiles. But what about cells for those more who are more Topshop than technophile?

Step forward the 6500 Classic. It's a black clad candybar that passes more than a passing resemblance to the old-school iPod Nano. Not that we're complaining. It looks sharp as hell and will induce gadget envy every time you slap it on the table.

Specs wise, it's all pretty much standard fare. You'll find a 2-meg camera, slimmed down from the 3.2 Carl Zeiss version on offer in its Slide sibling, 3G and a massive 1GB inside for storing up to 250 tunes on the MP3 player.

There are downsides though: texting is awkward thanks to poorly designed buttons and the fact you can only see two lines at a time when you first open up a blank message.

Then there's the Micro USB charger. It's a great idea in principle, with all manufacturers heading down this road over the next year. Thing is though, it's still not quite ubiquitous, meaning if you get caught short, chances are no bugger will be able to lend you a charger.

If you're after a good ol' blower rather than a multimedia monster, then you can do a lot worse than this.
