Sony showcases touchscreen Reader at CES 2009

Digital words of wisdom

We’re still undecided on whether eReaders will ultimately replace the ol’ papyrus, but if there’s one device that’s likely to sway us, it’s the Sony Reader.

Well sitting proudly on show at CES is Sony’s updated model: the PRS-700BC Reader, and it aims to put its older brother to shame.

So what’s new? Well firstly there’s more memory, which will let you store around 350 books – enough even for a ride on the District Line. Secondly there’s a much needed backlight, allowing nocturnal bookworms to get their kicks.

Most impressively is the fact that the machine now packs a touchscreen, for finger swiping page turning.
Whilst the eBook reader is still undoubtedly a young technology, a touchscreen is a step in the right direction to a perfect device that features a full QWERTY keyboard for Wifi book downloading.

No word on Price yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
