Canon unleashes new Legria FS-series camcorders

Today a wedding, tomorrow Hollywood

Canon is treading the ample ground between the pocket cam and the serious movie camera with its new Legria FS-series camcorders, packing plenty of features, but at the same time keeping everything light and simple.

Four models available (FS22, FS21,FS20 and FS200), all offering varying amounts of flash storage up to a maximum of 32GB as well as the option to record to SD card and up to three and a half hours shooting on a single charge - more than enough for bootlegging any gig (not that we condone such behaviour). And as these are the lightest Canon camcorders ever made, you'll still have some feeling in your arm at the end of it.

Some nifty pro-style features too. All the new models offer a Pre Rec function, recording both your clip and the preceding three seconds, just in case you're slow off the mark. And a Video Snapshot function automatically grabs short movie clips at the touch of a button, should you want to put together a montage of a wedding for the happy couple. You can also add to that a 'dual shot' mode for capturing both movies and stills, an advanced zoom of up to 45x, super-fast charging and with the Canon DIGIC DV II processor on-board, a quality of image up there with the best of 'em.

Expect these on the shelves in April, pricing still to be confirmed.
