Garmin StreetPilot c320
As eager to impress as a new-born pup.
Sorry Fisher Price, but this has beaten any attempt that you may have been planning to break into the satellite navigation market. More colourful than a toucan's beak full of crayons, this is actually easier to use than flipping open a normal map to plan your journey.
Even the most sausage-like digits can punch the touchscreen without fear of pressing an option they didn't intend to, and computing a destination is a breeze. Simply spell it out on the device, the onboard memory will then retrieve a list of matches, and then just choose where you want to go. Somewhat endearingly, when you've made your choice, a big green button screaming "GO!" appears - like a dog freaking out when you produce its leash. Bless.
Once the little scamp is on the move, the screen is comfortably busy with roads and local geographic features - such as green areas and water - but it does feel a tad sparse at times. Compensating for this lack of greater on-screen information is a whacking, great arrow pointing you in the direction you've asked to be escorted to, so schoolboy errors should be at a minimum.
As for the voice commands, they resemble a female German secondary school teacher whose grasp of English is functional rather than chatty. Still, you're not looking to fall in love with your satnav.
