Ear-pleasingly good

Creative continues to battle Apple on all fronts. This is its answer to the iPod Hi-Fi, and it's cheaper and better.

The '500 has a neat design, and docking is via 3.5mm plug, so it works with all players. The slot in the front is for Creative's own Vision:M only, though.

There's plenty of volume, and a booster on the rear panel makes it belt out enough low end to satisfy even the biggest bass-head. It does eventually distort, but we reckon your neighbours will "drop in" long before then.
