Logitech Wireless DJ Music System

Take my Wi-Fi?please! Logitech's streamer has no need of it

Connecting cables may be going the way of the dodo, Leeds United and the Liberal party, but their anointed successor - Wi-Fi in its various guises - is not to everyone's taste, due to the maddening vagaries of setting it up. Logitech, however, thinks it has the answer in the shape of this wireless - but not Wi-Fi - music streaming system.
Instead of Wi-Fi, this uses a dedicated streaming transmitter unit, plugged into a USB port on your PC (It's not Mac compatible). This then beams information to a receiver attached to your hi-fi, which can be up to 90m away. No Wi-Fi means no network, which means no pulling your hair out setting up.
Streaming N.E.R.D.'s Fly Or Die to a stereo upstairs, the sound quality was superb, with the duo's brand of hip-hop-rock sounding as crisp, clear and bassy as it should. The signal's robust too, and seemingly unfazed by walls, doors and floors - although it finds people more of a problem, dropping out if you move your hulking frame next to the receiver.
Once you've installed Logitech's StreamPoint software the Wireless DJ beams the libraries from Windows Media Player, iTunes and MusicMatch (MP3, WMA and AAC files are supported) around your home. There's also access to Internet radio and Podcasts. The alluring Wireless DJ remote unit, with its backlit LCD and click wheel, charges in the receiver and gives you remote access to your libraries.
At nearly £200, the Wireless DJ is not cheap, but not outlandishly priced by streamer standards either. If you've got a big library of digital music that you want to distribute around the house, without the hassle of using a Wi-Fi network, then this simple system does a great job. DP
