Grundig Emanate
Put the spade into retirement, because this is the only bucket you'll be taking to the beach this summer
The world of iPod docks has just stepped up a gear. Grundig has released its first outdoor, splash and whack-proof MP3 speaker set in the UK.
With bucket like looks and two beach friendly colours, the Boom Bucket is an attractive piece of kit. Competing with the recently released ZipConnect and Peers Hardy outdoor speaker models in America, the Grundig is the first of its kind to come to the UK.
Unlike its American predecessors, the Boom Bucket does not have a wireless controller. However, its snazzy and minimalist remote allows control of the speaker from a distance, but without the ability to see the track or artist you are changing to.
The sound quality is excellent at a low volume with its two 15W output. Crank the Boom Bucket up though, and the sound falters a little. It experiences scratchy distortion at high levels, so it may not be the best option for your Iron Maiden themed garden party.
Weighing in at a hefty 4kg, it is heavy enough never to be knocked over, and weighty enough to prove effective if required to be wielded as a weapon.
The sealed scuba face to keep the iPod out of the rain is its crowning glory. Ideal for us Brits determined to head to the beach or have a barbie in the rain. We will have a summer god-dammit.
